The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has approved the licensing and activation of 5G technology stations in an additional 395 municipalities as of Monday, March 18. This brings the total number of municipalities with 5G coverage to 3,678, covering approximately 181.3 million Brazilians, or roughly 85 percent of the population.

This page: It presents 5G coverage in Brazil. Information about coverage are presented in two categories: Coverage with the 3.5 GHz frequency: which allows higher speeds as it has a larger band for operators (100 MHz or 80 MHz) depends on spectrum cleaning, with the migration of satellite dishes that receive free-to-air TV to the Ku band.
On December 2024, Anatel announced that all 5,570 municipalities in Brazil are now eligible to receive SA 5G technology, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of the next-generation network. At the time of Anatel’s latest data release, it was estimated that 770 municipalities already had active 5G networks.
Three-and-a-half years after receiving its 5G licenses, Vivo —Brazil’s largest mobile operator by subscriptions—can claim the country’s most extensive 5G subscription base. As of May 2025 (the most recent official data available), there were approximately 19.2 million users connected to its 5G Standalone network.
Like its chief rivals, TIM Brasil activated its 3.5GHz 5G network in July 2022 and has since deployed the country’s most extensive fifth-generation mobile network. While the network only spans 13,189 cell sites—far fewer than Vivo—TIM still manages to offer 5G access in a whopping 705 municipalities, more than double the number served by Claro.
