Although efforts are underway to build a reliable solar supply chain in Europe, the need for panels now means leaders cannot wait until 2025 or later to buy European. Marius Mordal Bakke, senior supply chain analyst, Rystad Energy
Every four months, Sinovoltaics publishes region-specific solar supply chain maps for North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and India, documenting the published plans of manufacturers operating in each region. It also publishes an annual transformer manufacturing map for Mainland China.
The report tracks the announced factory location, size, owner, and planned capacity, as well as sites that have been closed, or where capacity is on hold. There are 125 factory sites listed in the Sinovoltaics Europe Solar Supply Chain Map for 1Q2025, which is available as a free download.
These goals include a target for 30 GWdc of European manufacturing along the entire value chain by 2025 and 40% of installed solar PV being manufactured within the continent by 2030. Despite these ambitious goals, between 2019 and 2022, locally-made modules could not keep pace with the growth of imported panels.
Sinovoltaics’ services include quality assurance inspections, factory audits, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reports, and traceability audits for utility solar developers and investors.
