So far, however, the development of solar energy in the country has been rather limited. According to Latvia’s grid-operator Sadales tīkls AS, which is a subsidiary of Latvenergo, there was just1.3 MW of renewable energy power installed under net metering at the end of 2016.
Expanding portfolio of solar projects Ignitis Renewables’ portfolio of solar farms in Latvia currently consists of two solar farms already under construction – the 94 MW Vārme solar project in Kuldīga municipality and the 145 MW Stelpe solar project, which consists of two separate sites in Stelpe and Bārbale parishes in Bauska municipality.
The completion and commercial operation of these solar farms is planned for 2025. The current investment in the development of solar projects by Ignitis Renewables in Latvia is estimated at around EUR 284 million, which includes both construction and project development costs.
Work has already begun on the assembly of the panel structure to prepare for the laying of the panels," Bērziņš said. Merito, which is the owner of Kalkūnes SES, will have eight such solar panel parks in Latvia, said Māris Plūme, board member of the fund's cooperation partner, the company "Saules Energy" (Solar Energy).
Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, is expanding its operations in Latvia. The investment decision foresees an investment up to EUR 106 million in the development of the 174 megawatt (MW) Tume solar farm, which will be one of the largest of its kind in the Baltics.
Annually, the solar power plant will produce 13,500 megawatt-hours of electricity, which will be enough to fully supply at least 6,500 households in the Daugavpils area. "We are located in Kalkūne parish, we will start work here, we will build a solar panel park.

The global commercial and industrial container energy storage market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with demand increasing by over 450% in the past three years. Containerized storage solutions now account for approximately 55% of all new commercial solar installations worldwide. North America leads with 45% market share, driven by corporate sustainability goals and federal investment tax credits that reduce total system costs by 35-40%. Europe follows with 38% market share, where standardized container designs have cut installation timelines by 70% compared to traditional solutions. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest-growing region at 55% CAGR, with manufacturing innovations reducing container system prices by 25% annually. Emerging markets are adopting container storage for remote power, construction sites, and emergency backup, with typical payback periods of 2-5 years. Modern container installations now feature integrated systems with 100kWh to multi-megawatt capacity at costs below $450/kWh for complete container energy solutions.
Technological advancements are dramatically improving container energy storage performance while reducing costs for commercial applications. Next-generation container management systems maintain optimal performance with 60% less energy loss, extending system lifespan to 25+ years. Standardized plug-and-play container designs have reduced installation costs from $1,200/kW to $600/kW since 2022. Smart integration features now allow container systems to operate as virtual power plants, increasing business savings by 45% through time-of-use optimization and grid services. Safety innovations including multi-stage protection and thermal management systems have reduced insurance premiums by 35% for commercial container installations. New modular container designs enable capacity expansion through simple container additions at just $400/kWh for incremental storage. These innovations have improved ROI significantly, with commercial container projects typically achieving payback in 3-6 years depending on local electricity rates and incentive programs. Recent pricing trends show standard industrial container systems (100-200kWh) starting at $45,000 and premium systems (500kWh-2MWh) from $200,000, with flexible financing options available for businesses.
