KUALA LUMPUR: Solarvest Holdings Bhd's subsidiary Atlantic Blue Sdn Bhd has secured Brunei's largest national solar project, with a generation capacity of 30 megawatts (MW). The project will be developed through a joint venture company, Seri Suria Power (B) Sdn Bhd, in partnership with Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn Bhd and Khazanah Satu Sdn Bhd.
Tenaga Suria Brunei, launched in 2010 with a capacity of 1.2 MWp, and Brunei Shell Petroleum’s 3.3 MWp plant, launched in 2021 to power its headquarters, are also part of the country’s solar portfolio. 30 MW solar plant on remediated landfill in Kg Belimbing, developed by Malaysia's Solarvest, Serikandi and Brunei government’s Khazanah Satu.
It is expected to generate 64,473,000 kWh once it starts commercial operations, which will be supplied under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Government of Brunei, represented by the Department of Electrical Services. Solarvest says the project will be built for an estimated BND 34 million ($26.46 million).
Solarvest says it is expected to be the largest solar PV power plant in the country, on completion by the end of 2026. The project will be built and operated by Seri Suria Power, which is owned by Solarvest subsidiary Atlantic Blue Sdn Bhd (34%) in a joint venture partnership with Serikandi Oilfield Services (36%) and Khaznah Satu (30%).
Solarvest executive director and group chief strategy officer Leon Liew Chee Ing said the project reflects Brunei's strong commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, given the nation's abundance of fossil fuels.
Upon completion by the end of 2026, it is set to become the largest plant in Brunei, with an annual output of more than 64.47 million killowatt-hours (kWh), with a potential to offset about 645,000 one million British thermal units (MMBtu) of natural gas and 92 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
